The Philadelphia Union announced their first trade of the regular season, shipping defender/midfielder Gabriel Farfan to Chivas USA. This 24-year-old Cal State-Fullerton product logged 57 total games with Philadelphia. Despite playing most of his college career as a midfielder, he was converted to left back after the Union traded Jordan Harvey during the 2011 season.

The Nomads Academy is dedicated to the total development of our player-students, whether they aspire to play soccer professionally, pursue their studies in college while playing soccer, or play in the US Soccer Development Academy. 

This program is for the player who is totally committed to making soccer their life.  We will help you get to the next level. 

TRAINING & PLAYING

Players will be expected to report to the soccer field 8:30am to 5pm each week day with potential extra sessions in the evening and scrimmages or games on weekends.  

TRANSPORTATION

Players will have an option to receive a free bus / trolly pass to use for transportation to and from school and practice fields. 

HOUSING

Players coming in to San Diego to play for the Nomads who need accommodation may be able to stay with other players if space is available or be housed through San Diego Homestay Agency at a cost of $1000 per month, includes breakfast and dinner (San Diego Homestay charges a $250 non-refundable application fee). 

MEDICAL INSURANCE

Players must provide proof of medical insurance, as part of player registration medical coverage is provided as a secondary insurance policy, not primary.

Current training schedule.  Players interested in our program may attend a training session as mentioned below but must complete a tryout request form prior to attending:  Request a Tryout

Boys Under 13/14 - Tuesday and Thurday at Kinsell Field 5:30pm - 7:30pm

Boys Under 15/16 and 17/18 - Tuesday and Thursday at Madison High School turf stadium 6:50pm - 8:30 pm.  Additional training is held on Monday nights, locations to be announced and scrimmages / games on weekends.

*The Nomads cannot provide travel expenses to players wishing to come to San Diego for trials*

Michael Farfan is normally a quiet guy when talking to reporters. But the look of excitement on his face was pretty evident on Wednesday night. After all, the 24-year-old had just played in his first ever MLS All-Star Game. “It was exciting. It’s something that we dream of as kids, to play against the European champions,” said Farfan. “It’s an amazing feeling" Not to mention, Farfan swapped spots with David Beckham in a 74th-minute substitution.
