The Nomads GU13 team brought home the Championship Cup from the Arsenal Summer Classic today, besting a field of eight teams in the Gunners’ Bracket with a 3-2 victory over a tenacious West Coast Futbol team. Strong winds made for challenging conditions in the championship game, with both sides unable to convert any goals in the 1^st half of play. Ten minutes into the second half the Nomads appeared to hold a comfortable 2-0 lead, with goals coming from Sarah and Noelle. However, 10 minutes later the game was tied after a West Coast player struck a beautiful free kick over the outstretched hands of our keeper from 35 yards out. The deciding goal came at the 65^th minute of play when Lindsay’s corner kick arrived at the goal area line. Despite the phalanx of West Coast defenders deflecting multiple shots, Maura placed the ball in the net after the third carom for the final score of the game.
